Messiah Missive

Beloved Church,

Pentecost blessings, dear Church! This Sunday we celebrate God’s sending of the Holy Spirit among us. In scripture, we find more than a few metaphors for this presence: a breath, a wind, a dove, a fiery flame, an advocate, a helper. Oftentimes, the language used to describe this presence is feminine, reminding us that the wide spectrum of gender is represented even in God’s own self, and that all of us reflect that diversity in one way or another. So, remember to wear fiery red this weekend, as we joyfully proclaim the spirit’s presence with us.

This weekend, we will be worshipping with the entire of our Northeast Ohio Synod via video, as Bishop Abraham Allende and the synod staff lead us in the Service of the Word. The Gospel lesson is John 20:19-23 ( — read it ahead of time and let it soak in, as we prepare to hear it again on Sunday morning.

+ Please join us for Sunday morning worship via video on the Home page. Make sure to check out this week’s Sunday School lesson as well.

+ Attention to Anyone Who is a Father, or Ever Had One: Please email your photo submissions to Kristy at: if you'd like to be included in the Father's Day slideshow. Please submit photos by Wednesday, June 17th.

+ Pub Theology is now meeting via video, using the Zoom service. If you’d like to be added to the list, please email Pastor Paul at The next session is scheduled for June 8.

+ Pastoral Care: the world is experiencing an unprecedented season of difficulty, and all of us are affected in our own way. If you would like to connect with Pastor Paul for a conversation, please call or email the church office: 440-442-6941 or

+ Prayer Requests: during this "stay at home" period -- we encourage you to make prayer requests for the weekly Bulletin and monthly Grace Note by sending these to the church office via email: (send by Wednesday at noon for Bulletin inclusion the following Sunday).

+ If you or someone you know needs assistance with food or has other needs during this uncertain time, please call the church office or send us an email, and we can assist as we are able.

+ As always, please continue to reach out to one another, especially those whom you know are having a tough time. A little bit of hospitality goes a long way.

Pastor Paul

We welcome all people to our worship services. If you are visiting, please feel free to introduce yourself to Pastor Paul. Our congregation strives to be a warm and welcoming place for all.

What is a worship service like?
Our worship service follows in the tradition of centuries of Christians before us. We sing hymns both traditional and contemporary accompanied by various instruments: organ, piano, and guitar. Our choir sings anthems both old and new and our bell choir lifts us to new levels of worship when they play for us.

What kinds of people are there?
On a typical Sunday, you'll see all kinds of people - from new parents proud of their young children, to teenagers participating in our youth group, to senior adults hanging out with life long friends. Messiah is truly a multi-generational community of faith with people from all walks of life.

What should I wear?
Come as you are! While you might tend to worry about what to wear to church, you will fit in just fine whether you come in jeans and a t-shirt, polo and khakis, or a suit and tie. What is in our hearts is more important that what is on our body!

John 13: 34-35

Our Lord has given us so many blessings! We at Messiah want to share those blessings with the world. We love because we have been loved by Christ.  We serve because we have been served by Christ. We welcome you to the Messiah family because Christ has welcomed all of us into God's family. Come worship, learn, and serve with us. Everyone is welcome!

Even though we can't currently be next to one another to worship, we lift our praises and prayers to God as we gather at our own homes and follow along with online worship. The current service and bulletin are on the home page. Past services can be found by clicking below:
